Measurement limitations
outlineGo is for approximate, non-professional measurements and everyday 2D sketches. It helps record an outline, not establish verified dimensions, legal property boundaries or a certified plan.
- Phone sensors can drift or be affected by magnetic interference, phone movement and the surrounding environment. Manual inputs can also contain errors. No numerical accuracy level is guaranteed.
- Relative and magnetic direction modes depend on available sensors; manual direction entry remains an alternative. The camera is an aiming viewfinder, not an automatic distance scanner. In buildings or near metal objects, verify directions independently rather than relying on magnetic readings alone.
- Step-based lengths are estimates. They depend on the configured step length, actual stride, phone movement and the device's step detector. Check and correct them where needed.
- Check the selected unit (m, cm, ft or in) and the configured step length. Changing the app language does not change the measurement unit. Displayed decimal places, rounding or angle snapping do not guarantee that degree of accuracy.
- A closing edge may be calculated from the sketch. Calculated closure is not an independent measurement or proof of accuracy. A displayed area requires a valid closed outline and remains dependent on the entered measurements.
- An independent return measurement does not automatically correct the outline. Review the shape and measurements even when a perimeter, area or closure result is available.
- Verify important dimensions with suitable equipment before buying materials or starting work. Do not rely on outlineGo alone for surveying, construction, structural decisions, property boundaries or safety-critical tasks.
- Check dimensions, units, labels and geometry after exporting PNG or importing DXF into CAD. An export does not improve measurement accuracy. DXF export requires Plus.
- DXF uses a local 2D XY coordinate system, not georeferenced property coordinates. Its length labels are separate text and may need updating after CAD edits. Free PNG exports have a watermark; Plus removes it. Neither version certifies measurements.
- Sketches stay on your device. Deleting data or uninstalling may remove them. PNG and DXF cannot restore editable projects; restoring Plus does not restore sketches.
- Stay aware of your surroundings, traffic, obstacles and other people. Stop moving when you need to review the screen.
In-app acknowledgement: “I accept the terms of use and understand the measurement limitations.”
The app stores the accepted content version and date locally. This website does not record an acknowledgement. Acceptance is not consent to Sentry error reporting, a waiver of consumer rights or confirmation that a measurement is accurate.
Read the terms of use and privacy policy. Optional error reporting is off by default and controlled separately in the app.
